handle + maintenance

Because your new cutting board is made of real hardwood, it is imperative you condition it well! Here are some tips to keep your board in tip top shape.

washing

Giving your board a nice hot scrubbing immediately after each use is best. Please do not run it in the dishwasher. Also, refrain from soaking to prevent warping and cracking.

finishing

In its final stage of finishing, boards are sealed with food safe mineral oil and natural beeswax. I recommend reapplying every month or when the board is looking a little too dry.

storing

I like to lean the cutting board on one of its edges to allow both of the main cutting surfaces to rid itself of moisture.

Lastly, please feel free to stop by and drop off your cutting board for deeper treatment. Depending on the condition of your cutting board, a few passes of bench planing or a coat of mineral oil may be necessary.

Remember, wood will swell and shrink in its natural course. Proper handle and care will extend the life of the board for years to come!
